David,

Followed your procedure down to: "sudo ruby1.8 setup.rb" where it blows.

I think your system has something already installed that is missing on mine.

Can you help?

I am having some major problems!

I have successfully set up Apache2, webmin, & Bind9.
I then created a publichtml: /home/spencer/server/publichtml
chmod 644 /home/spencer/server/public_html/index.html
Then I created a virtual server. It save the information to /etc/apahce2/etc/access.conf

When I type HTTP://freeflyer57.com/~spencer/, the computer gives me a server not found error.

Can you help me with this?

Thanks for this check list for ubantu set up
Being new to this and wanting to set up a server for my own purposes and the challenge of it!

Every thing is going well UP TO THE downloded webmin part but found I didnt have perl so got that reloaded webmin and it seems to have loaded

BUT cant reach the server thru my network

So after some googling it seems i need to set up the static ip address

below is what i have found

This file describes the network interfaces available on your system

and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

The loopback network interface

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

This is a list of hotpluggable network interfaces.

They will be activated automatically by the hotplug subsystem.

mapping hotplug
        script grep
        map eth0

The primary network interface

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
        address 192.168.0.100
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        network 192.168.0.0
        broadcast 192.168.0.255
        gateway 192.168.0.1

$vi etc/network/interfaces is the command which works fine and i get the screen above minus

iface eth0 inet static
        address 192.168.0.100
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        network 192.168.0.0
        broadcast 192.168.0.255
        gateway 192.168.0.1

i get eth0 inet dhcp

thats fine too i make the changes but cant seem to save the changes or exit the screen

Can you help here how do i save the changes and exit the screen to move on to the next part

Kind regards Bill Bailey
