First comment to not be a pingback lol.
I'll get right to it.

For other DNS options, instead of having to buy a domain and all of that. Check out: DynDNS
DynDNS has a free service that you can sign up for, basically you get a subdomain at a reasonable domain of your choice, examples: subdomain.homelinux.com.

so for anyone that isn't looking to be uber professional about it and just get their site published on the web and do some testing and that sort, its definetly a good choice. and my router (belkin) nativly supports dns services such as this to route things through automatically.

Second thing, i don't really like phpmyadmin; reasons being: php is involved in something that doesn't really need to be.

I prefer MYSQL query browser. has a package for ubuntu, check that out.

I'm just getting into developing Rails app's and definetly wanted to get some experience on setting up my own ruby/linux/mysql server. This is a very helpful how-to.
Appreciate your time and effort, also respect for the Ubuntu community!

BTW, I did all of this exactly on Edgy, so you could update it to include this as a Edgy/Dapper how-to.

Good job,
Zak
