Fixing Screen Resolution with Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu

Just reinstalled Ubuntu Feisty, but my resolution wasn’t automatically detected. Bummer.

sudo nvidia-settings

Go to ‘X Server Display Configuration’ and then select the resolution for your monitor. Click ‘Apply’ to ensure it works correctly, then ‘Save to X Configuration File’.

Highest resolution option when I follow this is 640×800 (running a 7300GT) Any ideas on how to get a high res to show as an option?

Highest resolution for me is 800×600 but it should be at LEAST 1024×768.. this guide is not very detailed =(

Had this problem too, but it can be fixed easily enough by ditching Ubuntu and get Slack or Fedora , that’s what I did

I allowed my kubuntu 8.10 to do an automated upgrade the other day, and now the 1280×1024 resolution is not an option anymore.

Running kernel 2.6.27-10-generic, NVIDIA 177.82 drivers, GeForce 7300 SE card.

I’ve tried re-installing the drivers (no change) altering the xorg.conf file to match the max res (no input) nvidia-xconfig (error at startx) throwing the xorg.conf away and using the default one (no resolution)

    Anybody got any ideas?

Why dont official release makers put not “any” resolutions like it does with windows… if it is out of range, the screen turns black, you press escape and put a self note .do not use this resolution again” …. These geeks sometimes does it so no-good…. Like, i havent found any safe tutorials yet about safely modifying xorg.conf like it used to be, easy, in version 7, the gusty one. If i add my 1280×1024 tag at modes, it makes the buntu run in safe graphical mode, offering me to reset xorg.cong…. I dont even belive that my nvidia drivers has been applied like it should… Koz the nvidia config tool says that it appears like i have not the propper nvidia drivers installed. … Aaaaaaah……… Sighs….
